Lotto 649 Prizes

The main Lotto 6/49 draw has been known as the Classic Draw since September 2022. The Classic Draw gives players seven different prize tiers to possibly win in – from matching two numbers all the way to the jackpot for matching all six numbers drawn. There’s also a Bonus Ball in each draw which can boost the value of prizes for those players matching two or five numbers. You can see all the prizes tiers, numbers needed to match to win and the odds in the table below:

Numbers Matched % of Prize Pool Estimated Prize Odds of Winning
6 - $5 Million 1 in 13,983,816
5 + Bonus Ball 32.15% $150,000 1 in 2,330,636
5 13.5% $2,000 1 in 55,492
4 54.35% $90 1 in 1,033
3 - $10 1 in 56.7
2 + Bonus Ball - $5 1 in 81.2
2 - Free Ticket 1 in 8.3

The overall odds of winning a prize are 1 in 6.6

The prizes won for matching four, five and five + Bonus Ball change from draw to draw as they are dependent on the funds in the prize pool and the number of winners in that tier. More winners would mean lower prizes for each person, whilst a bigger prize pool would increase the amount for each tier.

Additional Draws

Alongisde each Lotto 649 draw is the EXTRA draw and the Gold Ball raffle. The EXTRA draw comprises of a seven-digit code where you win prizes for matching a certain number of digits in order. If you select the $1 additional EXTRA game on your ticket then you will receive a seven-digit code on your ticket labelled as your EXTRA entry. You win by matching your digits to the winning ones in the exact same place as they are drawn, starting with the last digit. The top prize is $250,000 for matching all seven digits, but you win smaller prizes for matching fewer, starting at $2 for just the last digit.

Gold Ball Jackpot

It does not cost anything extra to enter the Gold Ball Jackpot game as it’s covered in your $3 entry fee. Each ticket will have an eight-digit number followed by a two-digit trailer (e.g. 12345678-01) that is unique to that ticket. If you buy more than one entry on a ticket then the two-digit trailer will increase for each entry, with the eight-digit starter staying the same. Every draw will select one code sequence from all of those that have been sold, guaranteeing there is a winner every Wednesday and Saturday.

A separate draw takes place to determine the final value of the Gold Ball jackpot the player wins. 30 balls are placed in a drum and one is selected- 29 of these balls make the jackpot $1 million, but if the gold ball is selected then the player wins the Gold Ball Jackpot. The Gold Ball jackpot starts at $10 million and increases by at least $2 million between draws if it is not selected. Every time a non-gold ball is selected it is removed from the drum, making the odds of selecting the gold ball higher and higher each time it is not selected
