How Max Millions Works
As soon as the Lotto Max jackpot hits $50 million, Max Millions is played alongside the main draw.
In Max Millions, a number of prizes worth $1 million are made available. For each $1 million prize, a separate draw is held in which seven numbers from 1 to 50 are randomly selected. For example, if there are 12 Max Millions prizes on offer, there will be a total of 13 draws – one for the main Lotto Max game and 12 more, one for each $1 million Max Millions prize.
You are automatically entered into this additional game at no extra cost and do not need to do anything differently when you play. Your Lotto Max numbers are valid for every Max Millions draw on the same night.
Max Millions increases your chances of becoming a millionaire. In the example given, your odds of winning $1 million would be 13 times better than in a normal Lotto Max draw.
Max Millions draws are scheduled to take place straight after Lotto Max draws. This normally happens just after 10:30pm Eastern Time, but it can sometimes can take longer for the numbers to be announced on big jackpot nights so there may be a delay to ensure accuracy.
How to Win Max Millions Prizes
To win a Max Millions prize, you must match all seven of the drawn numbers. There are no secondary prizes available for matching fewer numbers. If more than one player matches all seven, the $1 million prize is shared amongst each of them.
The odds of winning are 1 in 33,294,800, just like the odds of landing the Lotto Max jackpot.
Max Millions Winners
You are entered into Max Millions draws as soon as they come into play, regardless of where you live - Atlantic Canada, British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec or Western Canada.

Calculating Max Millions Prizes
The number of Max Millions prizes offered in each draw depends primarily on ticket sales. Once the Lotto Max jackpot exceeds $50 million, it will be set at an advertised amount – usually increasing incrementally by $5 million until it reaches its $80 million cap.
If the Lotto Max jackpot is $50 million for a particular draw, for example, then any excess money in the jackpot prize fund above that figure would be used for Max Millions draws. In this case, it may be that strong sales push the jackpot prize fund up to $59 million, so there would need to be nine Max Millions draws plus the $50 million main draw.
Max Millions prizes are carried over to the next draw if they are not won. For example, if there were five draws with winners and four draws without, there would be an additional $4 million taken forward to the next draw. These would be in the form of Max Millions draws if the Lotto Max jackpot was still above $50 million. However, if the jackpot had now been won, the $4 million would just be added to the jackpot for the next draw. The starting jackpot can therefore be much higher than the minimum $10 million.
The Interprovincial Lottery Corporation (ILC) may also set a minimum number of Max Millions prizes for each draw. This can also affect how much of the jackpot rolls over to the next draw if it’s not won.
If, for example, there is a $50 million jackpot on offer but no one wins it, and there are two Max Millions winners, $2 million is taken from the jackpot prize fund to pay the Max Millions winners and $48 million carries over to the next draw. If in that same example the $50 million jackpot is won, the ILC funds the payout of the Max Millions winners and no money carries forward to the following draw.
